About Us
Gloversville Sewing Center opened in August 1981. In the years that followed we moved, expanded, bought the property next door and expanded again. We moved to our current location in 1985. Our store is filled with products to make your sewing easier and more fun. Every room tells a story and has its purpose. With over 4000 bolts we are also the largest quilt shop. We carry all the major fabric lines; and if you want a certain style of fabric, chances are we have plenty to choose from.
We have grown over the years, and now have the largest inventory of sewing machines,
fabrics, books and patterns in the area. And we do consider our area to be quite large,
with customers from the immediate Capital District, to the Canadian border to the north,
and northern New Jersey to the south. Our average customer travels 1 hour and 20
minutes to reach us, and as I was once told, “They better have a reason to come here.”
We feel obligated to make sure we have enough for you to choose from, and hope to
make you feel that it was “worth the trip” .
Our employees are all expert quilters, sewers and embroiderers. Our 2 full time technicians are the best, period. With 30 years of experience backing us up, we are sure we can help you with your sewing needs.
We are also the area’s largest Bernina, Brother and Janome dealer, and their lines of sewing machines are on display for you to try out. When you purchase a sewing machine from us, all classes and instruction are included free of charge, and are free for life. So, unlike other dealers, we do not limit you to 1 or 2 classes. We are here to teach you how to use your new sewing machine, even when it is no longer new. Our warranty is also extended; all labor and tune-ups are included in the warranty period.
Our The Bernina, Janome and Brother sewing machines are located in our large showroom. Our sewing machine showroom has most machines displayed in Horn cabinets for you to sit at, sew with and generally see how they fit you. Chairs are on display for the same reason. Try it before you take it home; make sure it works for you.
Our mission has been to provide a friendly and helpful atmosphere for our customers. We take pride in being experts in our field and imparting that knowledge to our customers.
